Add a little magenta magic to your day with my homemade rendition of Glinda’s Pink Potion from Starbucks. This brightly colored, fantastically fruity, sweet-tart marvel was inspired by the new Wicked movie—one sip and you’ll be entranced!

Witching season is upon us—the air is crisp and cool, and my front yard is covered with Halloween goblins and ghouls. And while there are many memorable witches in the American canon, few are as well-known and well-loved as Glinda the Good Witch—the one who said “Magic must be used for the good of all, or not at all.” 🩷
So, when I heard about the Glinda’s pink potion Starbucks was advertising, I was intrigued. How would they distill the sweet, good-natured, sparkly, candy floss-colored organza goddess into a cup? Apparently, by starting with a cerise-colored mango dragonfruit refresher base and topping it with a fluffy, pale pink cloud of strawberry-flavored dairy-free cold foam. Delightful!
If you’re a fan of Starbucks pink drinks and dragon drinks, this spellbinding sipper will be right up your alley. Between the citrusy tartness, tropical sweetness, and creamy, dreamy topper, it tastes like a love potion to me! And, since it’s entirely coffee-free, it’s the perfect afternoon or evening pick-me-up. (Need more of a caffeinated brew? Try Elphaba’s Green Elixir instead.)

What is Glinda’s Pink Potion?
There’s no actual pink potion in either Wicked or The Wizard of Oz, but this new Starbucks refresher is a masterclass in sweet-tart sorcery. It starts with a deliciously juicy coconut dragonfruit mango base peppered with real chunks of freeze-dried dragon fruit—yum! But it’s the sweet n’ creamy strawberry cold foam topper and crunchy pink and green sprinkles that makes this mystical mixture so enchanting.
What does it taste like?
Prepare for Glinda's Pink Potion to cast a spell of satisfaction on your moment of Me Time. Your first encounter is with the dairy free cold foam—imagine strawberry sweetness with whispers of delicate vanilla, swirled into an ethereal cloud that feels as soft as a prince’s kiss. As you continue to imbibe this witchy draught, you’ll be greeted with a burst of bright mango and tart citric acid, shaken to frosty perfection with the creamy, tropical goodness of coconut milk.
But even more mystery awaits—every so often, you’ll be surprised and delighted by the earthy-sweet chewy charm of freeze dried dragonfruit chunks beckoning you back for another gulp. In short, this DIY Starbucks drink is a potion brewed for the dreamers and the magic-believers, perfect for lifting spirits and enchanting afternoons.

Why You’ll Love This Starbucks Wicked Drink Recipe
- Cauldron-Sized Concoction - As a working mom of two, I love leftovers. Luckily, the dragonfruit mango refresher recipe makes enough for 4 of these yummy treats—just wave your
wandspatula once, and you’ll be set for the whole week! - Buzz-Free Boost - This homemade version of Glinda’s pink potion is entirely caffeine-free—perfect for adding a gentle pep to your step.
- Financial Felicity - When you go to a café, you have to pay the proverbial Troll’s Toll—it’s impossible to get out without spending at least $5. But when you become your own Starbucks sorcerer, abracadabra! You just saved a small fortune.
Ingredients Needed
No eye of newt or toe of frog here—all the ingredients you’ll need to make Glinda’s pink potion are accessible to the average mortal. Here’s what to grab:
- Barista-Style Oat Milk & Soy Milk - This dynamic duo provides the ideal amount of protein and creaminess to make a fantastically fluffy, deliciously dairy-free strawberry foam.
- Strawberry Syrup - While you’re welcome to buy it premade, the cheaper DIY version calls for just sugar, water, and strawberries—simple syrup, indeed!
- Mango Dragonfruit Refresher Base - The base is simply made with water, mango nectar, granulated sugar, dragonfruit powder, & citric acid.
- Sweetened Coconut Milk - I prefer reaching for one with a vanilla undertone, but any will do.
- Ice - If possible, use ice made from filtered water for the cleanest taste.
- Freeze-Dried Dragonfruit Pieces - An apt ingredient for a fairy tale libation, no? Don’t worry—no dragons were slayed to bring them to you.
- Pink & Green Sprinkles - Optional, but encouraged for an extra bit of magical sparkle. Any variety will do—I love smooth, round non-pareils.

Substitutions
When mixing up a witches’ brew, the wrong ingredient can make your potion putrid. Luckily, there are plenty of substitutions you can use!
- Barista-Style Oat Milk & Soy Milk - The trick here is to get enough fat for binding your foam in tight formation. You can use 2 parts vegan whipping cream or well-shaken full-fat canned coconut milk to 1 part full-fat plant milk like oat milk, soy milk, almond milk, or carton-style coconut milk. Alternatively, swap in dairy with 2 parts cream to 1 part milk.
- Strawberry Syrup - You can swap in any coffee syrup you prefer. I feel like coconut, macadamia nut, or vanilla syrup could all work.
- Mango Dragonfruit Refresher Base - Prefer strawberries to mangoes? Try making my strawberry acai refresher base instead.
- Sweetened Coconut Milk - Swap in the creamy plant-based milk of your choice. If you go this route, try to use a barista blend for the best mouthfeel.
- Freeze-Dried Dragonfruit Pieces - Freeze dried strawberry pieces or freeze dried mango pieces would be lovely alternatives. You could also swap in popping raspberry boba like in the summer berry refresher recipe.
- Pink & Green Sprinkles - Feel free to omit them, or swap in the garnish of your choice. Colored sanding sugar, strawberry sugar, Swedish pearl sugar, or Dutch vruchtenhagel (fruit-flavored sprinkles) would all be great alternatives!

How To Make Glinda’s Pink Potion At Home
Step 1: Make the Refresher Base. Add the water, mango nectar, sugar, dragonfruit powder, and citric acid to a medium saucepan and heat over low heat. Whisk continuously until the dragonfruit powder and citric acid are dissolved, then remove from heat. Allow the mixture to cool, then transfer to a large jar with a lid. Once cool, make Glinda's Pink Potion!
Step 2: Make Strawberry Cold Foam. Add all the cold foam ingredients to a small mason jar or glass. Froth with a milk frother for 20-30 seconds until pale in color and fully whipped. Set aside.
Step 3: Shake Refresher. Add ½ cup of the mango dragonfruit refresher base, ½ cup of sweetened coconut milk, and 1 tablespoon freeze-dried dragonfruit powder (this will make the drink purple) to a cocktail shaker or large mason jar with ice. Secure the lid and shake until well combined.
Step 4: Assemble Glinda’s Pink Potion. First, strain the refresher drink into a tall glass over ice. Stir in more freeze-dried dragonfruit if desired, then top with strawberry cold foam and pink & green sprinkles if desired. Drink up!

Optional Variations & Dietary Adjustments
Want to show off your personal sorcery skills? There are plenty of ways to make this pretty pink potion your own:
- Berry Beautiful. Instead of starting with a dragon drink base (made with mango, dragonfruit, and coconut), start with a pink drink base (strawberry, acai, and coconut) instead.
- Reduced-Sugar. Swap in your favorite cup-for-cup sugar alternative (e.g. monkfruit) when making the refresher base to cut back on sugar calories. You can also use thinned out unsweetened mango purée instead of mango nectar and use an unsweetened coconut milk to go even further in reducing the added sugar content.
- Coconut-Free - If you’re allergic to coconuts, swap in the plant-based milk of your choice. Note that dairy milk isn’t recommended—it can curdle from the acidic juice base. You could also swap in lemonade or water to make the base brighter and lighter!
- Mix & Matcha - Take a page from Elphaba’s spell book and use matcha cold foam instead of strawberry.
Serving Suggestions
I certainly don’t need a rhyme or reason to mix up this strawberry mango stunner, and neither should you! That said, in true Glinda fashion, this potion plays nicely with others:
- Mom & Daughter Movie Date - I can’t wait to play dress-up with my eldest and go see Wicked when it comes out. Since concessions are ridiculously expensive, I’ll be mixing up a couple of pink potions in spill-proof to-go cups alongside a few bags of freeze-dried fruit, toasted nuts, and dark chocolate chips. As any mom knows, our purses are magic!
- Fairytale Brunch: Serve in delicate, clear glassware at your next brunch, garnished with a skewer of fresh berries or a twist of lime for that extra dash of whimsy.
- Sparkling Sorcery: Add a dash of sparkling water, sparkling lemonade, or sparkling wine to give it an extra fizzy kick—ideal for serving at a warm, fairy-lit evening gathering. For added magic, drop a small piece of dry ice in the bottom of each glass to create a smoky effect—just make sure the glasses stop fogging before drinking to ensure it has completely melted.
- Potion Party: Pour the refreshers into small, corked vials for serving at a themed gathering or a little girl's birthday party. Decorate with glittery ribbons and labels that read “Glinda’s Magical Potion.” Serve the strawberry cold foam on the side, letting your guests scoop it from a cauldron.
- Sorcerer's Spirited Sundowner: Mix with a splash of white rum or vodka for an adults-only version that adds a little extra enchantment to your evening.

Recipe Success Tips
- Smart Storage. The recipe card below makes enough mango dragonfruit base for 4 drinks. Store any leftover refresher base in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Homemade strawberry syrup should also be kept in the fridge, where it will last up to 2 weeks.
- Frothing Time. If you want to get a headstart on your potion enjoyment, feel free to mix the nondairy strawberry foam ingredients in a glass to keep in the fridge. You can also mix the refresher base with coconut milk in a large jar. When you’re ready for a magical boost, simply shake the dragon refresher with ice, use a milk frother to make the foamy topper, then assemble and enjoy!
- Potion Particulars. If possible, I recommend mixing up this draught from scratch—it’s the only way to avoid the artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives you’d find in store- bought versions! It’s also way cheaper.
FAQs
You know how lattes and cappuccinos have that yummy, frothy milk topper? Well, cold milk doesn’t really do that as well as when it has been steamed first. Cold foam was designed to mimic that frothy, foamy consistency without steaming first. Cold foam is also typically flavored with any number of coffee syrups, so it adds both sweetness and texture to iced drinks.
Generally speaking, Starbucks specialty drinks range from about $5-6, including flavored cold brews topped with cold foam. If you are trying to add strawberry cold foam to a drink that doesn’t usually have it, you will likely be charged about 50 cents to $1 depending on the store.
Unfortunately, while the strawberry cold foam at Starbucks is technically gluten-free, all of their equipment is shared—that means cross-contamination is likely. Also, the cold foam Starbucks uses for Glinda’s pink potion is dairy-free, but if you just order “strawberry cream cold foam” you’ll need to request it be made dairy-free for it to be vegan. When you make it at home, though, it’s easy to ensure your strawberry foam is both gluten-free and vegan. Neither Starbucks nor my recipe contains eggs.
Elphaba’s Green Elixir—a vanilla-mint cold brew topped with a creamy matcha cold foam and sprinkles. 🧙
Trick question—there is no pink potion in Wicked! This drink is simply inspired by the movie.
DIY Starbucks-Style Glinda’s Pink Potion Nutrition
Overall, Glinda’s potion lives up to the Good Witch name. Each serving of this fruity libation comes in at 193 calories—light enough that your broomstick won’t get weighed down. It also has a reasonable 4 grams of fat (not bad for how creamy it tastes!) and 2 grams of protein—not much, but enough to provide a bit of satiety. The 25 mg of sodium is barely a blip.
The only thing you really need to keep your eye on here are the carbs—40 grams per serving, with 36 of those coming from sugars. While some of the sugars are naturally occurring from the fruit, the vast majority are added. If you’re concerned about sugar, jump up to the variations section where I give you a few ideas on how to lighten things up. Enjoy!
