Whatis Brown Sugar Oat Milk Creamer?

This brown sugar oat milk creamer recipe is a luscious, plant-based alternative to traditional creamers. It is great for those who enjoy a bit of sweet, caramel flavor in their coffee without any dairy. This homemade creamer combines full-fat and barista-style oat milk with caramel notes of brown sugar and the classic sweetness of granulated sugar. The ingredients are gently heated on the stovetop to dissolve the sugars and meld the flavors, resulting in a creamy, smooth addition to your coffee or tea.

Trader Joe’s brown sugar oat milk creamer recipe inspired this homemade version, which allows you to customize the sweetness and texture to your preference. Whether you like your creamer a bit sweeter or less sweet, this recipe allows you to control every aspect.

    • Homemade Goodness: You really can’t beat homemade flavor! Skip the store-bought versions and enjoy the freshness of homemade brown sugar coffee creamer. It’s free from artificial flavors and ingredients and will elevate your coffee game.
    • Customizable Sweetness: Tailor the taste to make your perfect cup–adjust the amount of sugar to your liking for the perfect sweetness level.
    • Budget-Friendly: Making your own creamer saves you time and money, and you can make larger batches so you never run out!

    Ingredients

To whip up this delicious oat milk creamer with brown sugar, you’ll need the following ingredients:

An overhead shot of the ingredients to make oat milk brown sugar creamer.
    • Full-Fat Oat Milk - Provides a creamy base and enhances the richness of the creamer. Opt for full-fat for a more decadent result.
    • Barista-Style Oat Milk - This plant-based milk is specifically formulated for frothing and mixing. It adds a smooth texture and helps seamlessly blend the creamer into your coffee.
    • Dark Brown Sugar - The star of the show gives the creamer its deep, molasses flavor. Use packed brown sugar for the most robust taste.
    • Granulated Sugar - Adds extra sweetness to balance the rich brown sugar. Adjust according to your taste preference.

    Substitutions

Need to make some changes? Here are a few great alternatives:

    • Full-Fat Oat Milk - If you don’t have full-fat oat milk, you can use any plant-based milk, like full-fat coconut milk or soy milk, though the texture may vary slightly.
    • Barista-Style Oat Milk - Regular oat milk made with hydrolyzed oats or another plant-based milk will work in a pinch. Blend the creamer after heating to mimic the rich consistency for a creamier texture.
    • Brown Sugar - Substitute with light brown or coconut sugar for a lighter sweetness with a similar flavor.
    • Granulated Sugar - Use a sugar substitute like maple syrup, honey, or a low-glycemic alternative like monk fruit sweetener; just note that it may slightly alter the flavor and texture.

How to Make Brown Sugar Creamer At Home

Ready to get started? Here’s how to make this delectable brown sugar oat milk creamer in just a few simple steps:

Step One: Whisk the ingredients together. Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan until well combined.

Step Two: Heat on the stovetop. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat until the creamer starts to steam, the sugars have dissolved, and everything is well combined.

Step Three: Cool. Once your creamer is smooth and everything appears to be combined and dissolved, remove the saucepan from heat and allow it to cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes.

Step Four: Serve or store. Once cooled, add the creamer to your coffee. Use a milk frother to make it extra creamy before adding. Pour the remaining creamer into a mason jar or container with a lid and store in the fridge for up to 7 days.

    Optional Variations & Dietary Adjustments

Feel free to get creative with your coffee creamer brown sugar recipe! Here are some recommendations to switch things up:

    • Spiced: For a cozy, seasonal twist, make a brown sugar cinnamon creamer by adding a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or pumpkin spice.
    • Vanilla: Stir in a splash of pure vanilla extract or a dash of vanilla bean powder to compliment the sweetness and add a classic vanilla flavor.
    • Nutty: Mix in a splash (to taste) of almond or hazelnut extract for a nutty undertone.
    • Low-Sugar: Reduce the brown sugar or use a natural sweetener like monk fruit or stevia for a lower-sugar version.
    • Extra Creamy: For a velvety, more indulgent creamer, blend the mixture after heating it with a milk frother before adding it to your drink.
    • Protein: Make this creamer an extra boost of protein by including one scoop of flavorless collagen peptides or a vanilla protein powder for a bit of added flavor.

    Serving Suggestions

    • Morning Mood Booster: Start your day with a splash or two of this creamer in your coffee or tea for a sweet, energizing kick to elevate your mood.
    • Cozy Latte: Make homemade lattes with half creamer and half milk for an indulgent, creamy, molasses-infused treat.
    • Holiday Drinks: Morning beverages with family feel extra special when gathering around the fireplace. Or, add this creamer to your favorite drinks, like espresso martinis or Irish coffee, for a boozy holiday party delight.

    Recipe Success Tips

    • Whisk thoroughly. Ensure that the sugars are completely dissolved by whisking well over medium-high heat. This prevents the creamer from forming a grainy texture and ensures a smooth finish.
    • Avoid boiling. Heat the creamer on the stovetop just until it begins to steam and the sugars completely dissolve, but don’t let it come to a simmer or a boil. Boiling the mixture can cause the creamer to develop a thick, undesirable texture that compromises the smooth creaminess.
    • Cool before storing. To prevent condensation and glass cracking, allow the creamer to cool to room temperature before transferring it to a jar.
    • Adjust the sweetness. Taste and adjust the sweetness to your preference before storing, as flavors can mellow slightly after cooling. Add more sugar for a sweeter version or more milk for a milder flavor.
    • Shake well before using. Shake stored creamer vigorously before adding it to your drink for the smoothest drink.
    • Use a frother. Whisk the creamer with a hand-held or standing milk frother before adding it to your drink for a light and silky finish to your drink texture. For the creamiest texture, replace part or all of the full-fat oat milk with barista-style oat milk.

    FAQs

Can I use this creamer in iced coffee?

Yes! This creamer also works great in iced coffee. Just make sure to stir it well to blend it into the cold coffee.

How can I make the creamer thicker?

If you prefer a thicker consistency, try blending the creamer after heating using a milk frother. Or, heat the milk on low, without boiling or simmering, for an extra 5-10 minutes after combining or until it has reduced to your desired consistency.

How long does the creamer last?

This homemade creamer can be stored in a sealed mason jar or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. The container must be airtight to maintain its freshness.

I thought this was a recipe for homemade coffee creamer, meaning homemade oat milk, not store bought oat milk where you added flavoring.

I see your link for barista style oatmilk, but can you suggest some full fat oatmilks, so I can know which ones to look for?

(I’ve looked at how to make homemade oatmilk/creamer that’s creamy and not slimy and it seems like wayyy too much work! I love that you have an easier way to duplicate this flavor.)

      Thanks!

I really like Oatly full-fat oatmilk, they have a barista style also. I also like the Organic Valley creamy style oat milk too!

Do you think this would freeze well if I wanted to make multiple batches at once?
